The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs is the fourth expansion pack for The Sims 4.[1] It was announced on August 21, 2017, at Gamescom and was released worldwide on November 10, 2017. The console version was released on July 31, 2018. It is a spiritual successor to The Sims: Unleashed, The Sims 2: Pets, and The Sims 3: Pets. The expansion reintroduces cats, dogs, raccoons, and foxes as well as new features such as a vet clinic business that Sims can experience in the new world of Brindleton Bay.

In Cats & Dogs, Sims can own cats and dogs as pets, which are the main feature of the expansion pack. Unlike previous games, pets cannot be controlled by the player, similar to The Sims 2: Pets, and there is no cheat that will allow the player to do so. Sims can interact with these pets in various form of ways such as feeding, playing, and training, and can bond with them through these interactions.

Both pets have three life stages; kitten/puppy, adult, and elder. They will live through these life stages like normal Sims, but much shorter. Pets can also die, but only from old age. Both cats and dogs can have three different pet traits, which are unique to them and are not available to Sims. These traits control the pets' actions and reactions toward the surrounding world. Some traits have unique attributes for one of the two species, but most traits are identical to one another. After the pet ages into an elderly cat/dog, they will live from 6 to 11 sim days until they die by old age, it's random for each pet!

Cats and dogs can be created with Create a Pet, and there are many pre-made breeds for them. Players will be able to customize their pets' appearance and even make their breeds. Create a Pet borrows the same click-and-drag mechanic from Create a Sim, making players able to sculpt and mold their pets to have more details and features.

The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs also introduces a brand new feature to the series, which is vet clinics. They are a lot of types of businesses that Sims can own. Cats and dogs can now have various types of illnesses, that can be easily cured by veterinarians. They are treated with different types of medicine and in serious situations with a surgery station, that can also neuter and un-neuter pets.

Pets will liven up Sims' lives in a number of ways. First, you will have to care for them, for example walk dogs, feed them and take them to the vet when they're sick, else they can be taken away. Kids who do this will gain responsibility from the Parenting pack.

You can't control your pets, but you can teach them. Pets can be trained and your Sims will build up relationships with them in the process. Is the cat shredding furniture? Scold it and teach it not to do that, and it'll gradually stop using this behavior. Housebreak your dogs and teach them to go outside. Many players seem to like this feature, as it's more realistic than giving the player the ability to control what the pet does. You can't see their moods, you can only check how they're doing.

Overall there's quite a bit of new content in the Expansion that can't be listed here just yet. I'll dig into the gameplay the weekend of release and work on guides for cats and dogs, the veterinarian and any Sim skills.

Pets have always been a huge part of The Sims franchise but with The Sims 4, the focus was switched from adding a broader range of animals to adding just two. The Cats & Dogs expansion does exactly what it promises in its name, giving players cats and dogs in their game.

Pets in this expansion cannot be controlled but that doesn't mean they don't have personality. Just like with sims, their traits determine behavior and just as in real life their needs have to be met.

Cat training is limited to stopping bad behaviors. They can be (eventually) trained to use litter boxes, not eat human food, not jump on counters, etc. Aside from this cats mostly do their own thing, just like in real life.

Dogs can also be trained but their training is different. While behavioral training is a thing dogs can be taught to sit, shake, play dead, or roll. There is also a specific set of items to teach dogs to jump through hoops, etc.

Animals can be sent out to forage for collectibles. Cats will go out prowling without much input but dogs will need a little more direction. Both can dig up mounds of dirt in Brindleton Bay that can yield collectibles.

Your pets can get sick and a visit to the new vet clinic is needed. Clinics can be built and run by sims and any sim with a pet can visit them. This means players can experience both sides of the process.

The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs was released on November 10, 2017, marking the fourth expansion pack in the beloved The Sims 4 franchise. This expansion pack introduces players to a world of exciting new possibilities, including the ability to own and care for cats and dogs, create a veterinary clinic, explore a coastal town, and much more. In general, this pack focuses on activities centered around Sims' beloved animal companions.

Regarding the core features, The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs is similar to its predecessors' additions such as The Sims: Unleashed, The Sims 2: Pets, and The Sims 3: Pets, all of which introduced playable cats and dogs, as well as wild animals to the game. While it is not the most extensive pack in the franchise, it is a beloved one, since it adds a great deal of immersion and realism to the game, particularly for players that want to bring their beloved pets into the world of Sims.

With this pack, players can now make their furry friends, cats and dogs, a part of the Sims' households, allowing them to interact and become a vital part of the family. Pets come in three life stages, namely puppy or kitten, adult and elder. Their lifespan, however, is shorter than normal Sims. The Create-a-Pet system in the CAS screen makes it easy to add and customize pets with a variety of common dog and cat breeds available to pick from. Players can further personalize their companion animals, such as their nuzzle shape, ear shape, eyes, tails, and fur, as well as take advantage of the color wheel for more advanced fur options. Additionally, cats and dogs come with their own unique traits selection, allowing players to create the perfect pet for their needs. While foxes and raccoons are not playable, players can create similar-looking dogs or cats that resemble them if they wish to do so. Pets take a slot in the household, similar to how Sims do. For players who are interested in owning a pet without having to go through the CAS screen, an adoption option is also available via phone in Live Mode.

Players should be aware that, while cats and dogs are playable in The Sims 4, they cannot be directly controlled by the player. To control their pet, players must resort to using mods. Additionally, the player cannot view their pet's needs, so they must observe their pet's behavior to learn what needs to be done. In general, this is an effective and realistic approach to taking care of pets, allowing for more meaningful interactions between the Sims and their animals than ever before in the franchise. Luckily, pets cannot die from anything but old age; however, they can be taken away by animal control if they have been neglected for too long. In order to prevent this, players should take care of their pets by regularly feeding them, providing affection, and taking them to the vet if they are sick. Pets can be trained to follow commands, or stop certain behaviors and your Sims will build strong and meaningful relationships with their pets in the process. This feature adds a more realistic touch to the game, allowing players to have more control over their pet's actions and fostering a deeper bond between them. Cats and dogs can also become familiars if players have a Spellcaster Sim available via the Realm of Magic game pack.

Brindleton Bay is a beautiful new world where Sims can choose to live, offering 16 lots in total. With scenic views, a picturesque harbor, and plenty of activities to explore, Brindleton Bay is the perfect destination for Sims and their pets. The world is a pet lover's paradise, as many of the locations offer activities tailored specifically for cats and dogs. From the Cavalier Cove neighborhood to the Chateau Frise lot, it's evident that much of the area is named after various animal breeds or carries an animal theme in general. Players may even come across the town's mayor, a stray cat aptly named Mayor Whiskers.

With its generous size and breathtaking views, Brindleton Bay is one of the best worlds in The Sims 4, even for players who don't have a pet. This gorgeous coastal town is reminiscent of a New England seaside village, with its large beaches and surrounding bay. In terms of the pre-made community lot options, there are five options available, including a bar, lounge, museum, a park perfect for taking dogs for a walk, and a vet clinic if players are not interested in building one from the scratch.

Another part of the pet training skill in The Sims 4 is teaching tricks to dogs. Sims will be able to teach them a variety of tricks that they can perform for other Sims, send them out hunting to collect items, and even command them to attack other Sims. While predecessors in the franchise allowed cats to learn some tricks, this feature is not available in The Sims 4.

Cats and Dogs brings a variety of unique and shared characteristics, with a total of 34 pet traits - 17 for cats and 17 for dogs. Each pet can have up to three traits, allowing them to develop unique personalities and behaviors. For instance, affectionate cat may follow their owners around the house, while skittish cats may be more likely to hide when there is a storm. Smart dogs will learn tricks quickly, while aggressive dogs might be hostile toward strangers and attack unless they are properly trained. Animal traits often have a greater impact on behavior than those of Sims, making the experience of playing with pets all the more fun and immersive since pets cannot be controlled. Along with the animal-inspired traits, this pack also introduces two new skills for Sims: Cat Lover and Dog Lover. These skills are aligned well with the theme of the pack. 041b061a72
